1914 Model T Ford

May 31, 1927, the last Ford Model T rolled off the assembly line.

It was the first affordable automobile, due in part to the assembly line process

Developed by Henry Ford. It had a 2.9-liter, 20-horsepower engine and could

Travel at speeds up to 45 miles per hour. It had a 10-gallon fuel tank and could

Run on kerosene, petrol, or ethanol, but it couldn't drive uphill if the tank was low,

Because there was no fuel pump; people got around this design flaw by driving

Up hills in reverse. Ford believed that "the man who will use his skill and constructive

Imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he

Can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed." The Model T cost $850 in 1909, and as

Efficiency in production increased, the price dropped. By 1927, you could get a Model T

For $290. "I will build a car for the great multitude," said Ford. "It will be large enough

For the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be

Constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest

Designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be low in price that no man

Making a good salary will be unable to own one — and enjoy with his family the

Blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces."

375k miles!

Posted by Ted | | Posted On Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 6:40 PM

We worked on a 91 Buick, Park Avenue with 375k miles. I don't think i've ever seen a car with that many miles on it! The car wouldn't start so after 2 trips to the part store and 4 hours of work testing the fuel pump, injectors, spark plugs, etc we we were about to tell the owner to call the junk yard. At the last minute we thought we'd try one more thing - check the crankshaft sensor. After we adjusted the sensor we tried to start the car and all of a sudden it roared back to life! What a great feeling after 4 hours of trying everything we could think of!

Posted by Ted | | Posted On Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2:52 PM

This last Monday we got some progress on the heads but got stuck at one point when we didn't have the right tool to remove a recessed bolt. This coming Monday we should be able to get the heads finally off and see what condition the heads are in and what our next steps will be.

The Toyota previa wad giving us trouble with the ebrake shoes - we couldn't get the drum part of the rotors over the new shoes! We did get the halfshaft and strut replaced on drivers side. We'll be finishing the right strut, shocks, and rear left brake caliper this week.

3 more projects

Posted by Ted | | Posted On Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 11:06 AM

This week we had some interesting projects. We had a 1997 mid-engine toyota previa van - you check the oil underneath the drivers seat. This car needed some serious lovin - it needs a halfshaft, front struts amd rear shocks, left rear caliper, rear pads, ebrake shoes, and front left strut mount. We'll be putting all these parts on next week.

Tony and Rhino are watching closely as we try and cool down Tony's engine to test a thermal triggered runner valve.

Brian is checking the crank and rod bearings in a ford explorer V6 after we found what looked like chocolate milkshake in the crankcase...

The donated lifts are finally installed – we’ll be testing them out tonight! We’ll be doing some final work on the space – fixing the walls, removing unneeded brackets etc. - to get it ready for our contractor to spray texture the walls later this week and then finally get city inspectors in to approve the space.
